Todden Quartet

Wednesday 16 October 2019, 19:00

The Todden Quartet is the fault of their Viola player Linda Gast. She is a one time probation officer before becoming an independent trainer in the field of probation and social work. She brought the quartet together in 2013. The cellist, David Skidmore, is also a one time probation officer and manager of the commissioning of drug treatment services. He has to take the difficult role of acolyte to the three domestic goddesses who make up the quartet. Their leader Jane Hopkinson, married to a retired probation officer, was described by one of her family, most of whom are professional musicians, as ‘formidable', and who are they to argue! Lastly they have the benefit of Sarah Herriot, second violin, their very own retired GP always at the ready to administer treatments should they be wounded by a misplaced A Sharp!

The quartet rehearses in their leader’s home, near Leintwardine in the beautiful surroundings of the Herefordshire hills. They have benefitted from coaching from the Maggini Quartet, the Fitzwilliam Quartet, The Tedesca Quartet and the Dante String Quartet, and from Robin Ireland, formerly the viola player in the Lindsay Quartet.
This concert comes after a week away together in Northumbria for more intensive music making.
