Rag Bag Morris at Gendale Festival, Wooler
Sunday 21 July 2019, 14:00
We dance at various pubs & other venues in the region from May - August.
We are a friendly and enthusiastic mixed side, drawn from both sides of the border between England and Scotland, we are based at Allanton, a small village in the Scottish Borders.
From September to April we practice at Allanton Village Hall and you are welcome to come and join us.
We dance some Cotswold & Welsh Border traditional dances, although we are mainly developing our own ‘Scottish Borders’ style. We’ve usually taken our inspiration from a local event, custom, place or personality, and have tried to use local tunes as much as possible. For example, our dance called ‘Days of Truce’ we dance to the tune ‘Lasses of Duns’; and ‘The Swing Plough’ dance commemorates James Small, who invented the swing plough on a farm in our area, which revolutionized agriculture in the eighteenth century.
